About SafeCasualtyPlus
Helping you to stay alive...
SafeCasualtyPlus
Safe Casualty Plus is a product of the personal experiences of many Nigerians, including those of the founders. It triggered a review of emergency care services generally, and particularly in Nigeria, with the objective of contributing to the bridging of identified gaps.
In Nigeria, we discovered that probably a sizeable proportion of emergency cases are preventable. There is also a significant variation in the safety and quality of accident and emergency care provided across the country. The provision of emergency care is expensive as it should be specialised. Not everyone can, and should, be providing it.
How quickly you access the service is just one of the many important factors that contribute to a successful outcome; having competent staff, necessary protocols and the right equipment are as important to achieving the best possible outcome.
Safe Casualty Plus will enable you to learn how to reduce your risk of being involved in a medical emergency and provide you with the tools to make an informed decision about where to go if you need emergency care services.
We will also support service providers on their continuous improvement journey of providing safe and cost-effective services.
The "Plus" in our name represents our strong commitment to prevention as we believe Prevention is better than Cure in this area. However, we also recognise that not everything is preventable and when you need emergency care, you should be able to access a safe and effective service, as early as possible.
Our list is made up of providers that have voluntarily committed to a minimum set of standards, peer reviews and continuous improvement. This is above and beyond what they are statutorily required to do and shows a commitment to do the right thing in a challenging environment. This is a national programme with a phased roll-out across Nigeria.
Emergency care services are grouped under 4 categories, each complementary and part of a bigger health system. The four classes are:
